BBAU Organises Tree Plantation Drive: Teachers, Students and Rotary Club Members Plant Saplings
Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Lucknow Trans Gomti, organised a tree plantation drive on 17th July at the premises of Savitribai Phule girls Hostel in the university campus. The programme was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal. The event was also attended by the Programme Coordinator Prof. Naveen Kumar Arora, Rotary Club of Lucknow Trans Gomti President Rotarian Purvi Mittal, Secretary Rotarian Vinod Singh and Treasurer Rotarian Ila Gambhir. The programme received special support from the 20 UP Girls Battalion and 67 UP Battalion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
Under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal, university faculty members, hostel wardens, non-teaching staff, Rotary Club members, and students collectively planted saplings. On the occasion, all participants also pledged to protect the environment, promote a greener campus, and ensure a clean and healthy environment for future generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal said that tree plantation is not merely a ceremonial activity but a moral responsibility towards nature, the environment, and future generations. Referring to the growing challenges of pollution, climate change, and increasing pressure on natural resources, he emphasised that every citizen must actively contribute to environmental conservation. He stated that if every individual plants at least one tree and takes responsibility for its care, the goal of building a greener and cleaner India can be achieved with ease. He also urged the university community, students, and all sections of society to actively participate in tree plantation drives and transform environmental conservation into a people’s movement. Prof. Mittal added that BBAU remains committed to promoting sustainable development, a green campus, and environmental awareness, and that such initiatives serve as an effective means of bringing about positive social change.

Programme Coordinator Prof. Naveen Kumar Arora remarked that environmental conservation cannot be achieved solely through government efforts; it requires the active participation of every individual in society. He highlighted that trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance, conserving biodiversity, and creating a clean and healthy environment. Therefore, he urged everyone to make tree plantation a part of their lifestyle and to take sincere responsibility for the protection and nurturing of the saplings they plant.
Among those present during the programme were Dr. Ravi Shankar Verma, In-charge of the Botanical Garden; Rotary Club of Lucknow Trans Gomti members Mr. Sumit Mittal, Mr. Alok Shukla, Mrs. Rita Ahuja, and Mr. Atul Kapuria along with faculty members, hostel wardens, non-teaching officers and staff, research scholars, and students.
