BBAU Celebrates ‘Rajbhasha Hindi Utsav–2026’ from September 1 to 30

Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, is celebrating ‘Rajbhasha Hindi Utsav–2026’ from September 1 to September 30, 2026. Organised by the Hindi Cell, the month-long celebration will include the inauguration of Hindi Month (Hindi Fortnight), along with various Hindi competitions organised by different departments. These will include dictation (Sulekh), noting and drafting, Hindi typing, Rajbhasha General Knowledge and self-composed poetry recitation competitions. In addition, a seven-day Hindi workshop, a one-day programme on Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Anand Math, a two-day national seminar, and the Hindi Fortnight closing and prize distribution ceremony will also be organised. Teachers, officers, employees and students of the University will participate in these programmes.

On this occasion, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal, expressed his happiness and said that the Hindi Utsav is not merely an event, but an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to our language, culture, knowledge tradition and national identity. He said that Hindi is an expression of India’s vast cultural consciousness, which has continuously strengthened the spirit of dialogue, coordination and coexistence amidst diversity. The Vice-Chancellor said that the promotion of Rajbhasha Hindi should not remain limited to Hindi Diwas or Hindi Fortnight. The use of Hindi needs to be continuously encouraged in daily communication, official functioning, academic thinking, research and knowledge creation. A language becomes vibrant and effective only when it is used naturally and comfortably in every sphere of life.

Prof. Mittal stated that India is today creating a new identity on the global stage with its rich knowledge tradition, cultural heritage and linguistic diversity. At such a time, the creation and dissemination of knowledge in Indian languages assumes special significance. The National Education Policy–2020 has also accorded special importance to education, research and knowledge dissemination in Indian languages. Universities can play an important role in building a strong bridge between language and knowledge. Prof. Mittal said that Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University has always remained committed to the values of social justice, equality, knowledge and human dignity. In this context, the University should strive to make Hindi a language of democratisation of knowledge and provide every individual with an opportunity to learn, think, question and create in their own language. At the same time, the development of Hindi should move forward with respect for and cooperation among all Indian languages, as India’s linguistic diversity is not a weakness but a unique cultural strength. He said that Rajbhasha Hindi Utsav–2026 will provide an opportunity to deliberate upon various dimensions of the use, prestige and progress of Hindi. Efforts will be made to promote the use of simple Hindi in official work, expand the possibilities of Hindi in research and academic writing, and strengthen the expression of technical and scientific subjects in Hindi. The younger generation will also be encouraged to view Hindi not merely as a subject, but as a capable language of knowledge, employment, innovation and creativity. The Vice-Chancellor called upon all teachers, officers, employees and students of the University to actively and creatively participate in Rajbhasha Hindi Utsav–2026. He said that enthusiastic participation in various activities, along with a commitment to increasing the use of Hindi in one’s respective field of work, would be the true significance of the celebration. He further said that Hindi should not be viewed merely as a ‘Rajbhasha’, but should be established as a language of knowledge, communication, sensitivity, creativity and confidence. The development of Hindi will also be an important step towards strengthening the collective heritage of Indian languages.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that Rajbhasha Hindi Utsav–2026 will infuse new energy, awareness and commitment towards Hindi in the University and that, through collective efforts, meaningful progress will be made towards establishing Hindi as a strong language of knowledge and innovation.
Through this month-long celebration organised by the Hindi Cell of the University, various competitions and academic activities will be conducted to promote creative interest in Hindi and encourage its greater use as the official language. The Utsav will also contribute towards establishing Hindi as a strong language of knowledge, communication, research and innovation at the University.
