Grand Celebration of Buddha Purnima at BBAU; Deliberations on the Teachings of Buddha

A program was organized at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University on May 1 on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, under the joint aegis of the Standing Organizing Committee and the Department of History. The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. Suresh Babu from the Department of Pathology, King George’s Medical University. Apart from this, Dr. Suresh Kaushal, Guest of Honour and former Director of Lokbandhu Hospital, Lucknow, Prof. S. Victor Babu, Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. Ram Chandra, Proctor, Prof. K.L. Mahawar, Chairperson of the Standing Organizing Committee and Head of the Department of History, Prof. M. Ravi Kumar. The program commenced with the ceremonial welcome of guests by offering khataks, followed by the recitation of Buddha Vandana by all present.
Chief Guest Dr. Suresh Babu extended his heartfelt greetings on the occasion of Buddha Purnima and stated that the entire world acknowledges the teachings and philosophy of Lord Buddha. He emphasized that Buddhism promotes logical thinking, a scientific approach, and a research-oriented mindset, making it highly relevant. He further noted that the philosophy is rooted in the values of equality, liberty, and fraternity, which play a crucial role in building a strong and harmonious society. He added that our thoughts are our greatest strength, and therefore, we must develop a positive and rational mindset. Prof. Babu also highlighted that in today’s challenging times, the teachings of Buddha provide the right direction. Hence, through education and awareness, these principles can be incorporated into our lives. In conclusion, he urged everyone to adopt Buddha’s ideals and actively contribute towards building a peaceful, inclusive, and progressive society.
Guest of honour Dr. Suresh Kaushal, while expressing his views, said that we must become our own guiding light and spread the light of knowledge and positivity. He emphasized that every individual, especially students, should act as a source of energy and strive to bring positive change in society and their surroundings. Dr. Kaushal also pointed out that not only external development but also introspection and self-analysis are equally important, as they help us understand our shortcomings and motivate us to improve. He concluded by encouraging students to become self-reliant, recognize their abilities, and continuously strive for self-improvement.
During the program, a meditation session was also organized, in which participants took part enthusiastically. Payas was also distributed among all attendees.
The event witnessed the presence of faculty members, non-teaching staff, research scholars, and students.
