BBAU Holds Dialogue with Heads of Departments on Expansion and Promotion of Hindi

Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, organized a dialogue programme with the Heads of various Departments on September 16, 2026, under the ‘Rajbhasha Hindi Utsav – 2026’ organized by the Hindi Cell. The programme primarily aimed to promote the use of Hindi in various academic and educational activities of the University, expand the role of Hindi in curricula, and deliberate upon the challenges and possibilities associated with the Hindi language and literature.
During the programme, the Heads of Departments shared their views on the growing significance of Hindi in various fields of higher education, its practical application, and the need to develop greater interest in Hindi among students and teachers. Special emphasis was laid on exploring ways to enhance the relevance and use of Hindi in the curricula of various disciplines.
The speakers highlighted that Hindi should not be confined only to language and literature-related subjects but should also be encouraged as a medium of teaching, learning, and academic writing in disciplines such as Science, Social Sciences, Commerce, Management, Law, Technical Education, and other professional courses. The need to enhance the availability of subject-specific reference materials, textbooks, research material, and digital resources in Hindi was also emphasized. The programme also witnessed detailed deliberations on the contemporary challenges faced by Hindi. The growing influence of English at the global level, the preference for English in higher education and employment, the limited availability of quality study material in Hindi for technical and scientific subjects, and prevailing perceptions regarding the practical utility of Hindi among students were identified as some of the major challenges.
The Heads of Departments also discussed various possibilities for promoting Hindi writers, researchers, and creative writers at the University level. The need to provide platforms for literary expression, encourage original writing and research in Hindi, and organize activities that can nurture students’ and teachers’ interest in Hindi was also highlighted. The participants further deliberated on ways to make the use of Hindi more effective in the academic and administrative functioning of the University. It was emphasized that the development of Hindi should not be viewed as being in opposition to other languages. Rather, Hindi should be promoted through the spirit of multilingualism and coordination among Indian languages, facilitating wider academic, literary, and cultural exchange.
The programme was attended by Assistant Registrar Shri Ram Kumar Gupta, Dr. Sandhya Dixit and Heads of various Departments, among others.
