Valedictory Ceremony of Four-Day ‘Ambedkar Jayanti’ and ‘University Foundation Day Celebration’ organised at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University organized a four-day series of academic and cultural programs, seminars, and competitions from April 11 to April 14 on the occasion of ‘Ambedkar Jayanti’ and ‘University Foundation Day.’ On April 14, the valedictory session featured a National Seminar on the theme “Udhyamita se Samaveshi Vikas: Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar ki Drishti Me.” The Chief Guest of the program was Hon’ble Mrs. Baby Rani Maurya, Cabinet Minister, Women Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition, Government of Uttar Pradesh. The guest of honour was Hon’ble Mrs. Vijay Lakshmi Gautam, Minister of State, Rural Development and Rural Engineering, Government of Uttar Pradesh. The program was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal. Other dignitaries on the dais included the keynote speaker and Founder Chairman of Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI), Mr. Shashank Kunwar, Chairman of the Standing Organizing Committee Prof. K.L. Mahawar, and Prof. Raj Sharan Shahi. The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and floral tribute to Babasaheb’s statue. This was followed by the University anthem and a formal welcome of the dignitaries with saplings on behalf of the organizing committee. Prof. Raj Sharan Shahi welcomed the gathering and outlined the objectives and structure of the program. The event was anchored by Dr. Sufia Ahmad.
In her address, Hon’ble Mrs. Baby Rani Maurya emphasized that knowledge fosters further knowledge and highlighted the need for society to bring about change through education. She urged everyone to reflect on how we are realizing Babasaheb’s vision. She also mentioned the contributions of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Ji and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Ji. She noted that Babasaheb continuously struggled for the rights of Dalits, marginalized communities, and women, and through the Constitution paved the way for women’s empowerment. She stressed that ideas lead to innovation and that empowering every section of society is essential for real social transformation. She concluded by reiterating Babasaheb’s message: “Educate, Organize, and Agitate.”
Hon’ble Mrs. Vijay Lakshmi Gautam, in her address, said that Babasaheb’s life teaches us to achieve our goals despite adverse circumstances. She described education as the most effective tool for social transformation. She highlighted Babasaheb’s role in laying the foundation of India’s democratic framework and his strong advocacy for the rights of women, youth, and laborers. She pointed out that inequality and discrimination still exist in society and emphasized the need to ensure justice for marginalized sections. She also encouraged women to break social barriers and adopt education as a powerful means to transform society.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal extended greetings on the occasion of Babasaheb’s birth anniversary and encouraged everyone to imbibe his ideals. Referring to Babasaheb’s famous quote, he said, “Education is the milk of a lioness; whoever drinks it will roar,” emphasizing education as a powerful tool for social and economic transformation. He also highlighted the principle “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye,” describing education as the path to liberation and progress. He further stressed the importance of entrepreneurship in achieving holistic development and encouraged youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.
The keynote speaker and Founder Chairman of DICCI, Mr. Shashank Kunwar, elaborated on the objectives and activities of the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI). He explained that the organization works towards economically empowering marginalized communities by promoting entrepreneurship, especially among SC/ST youth. Through training programs, mentorship, financial awareness, and networking opportunities, DICCI supports young entrepreneurs in establishing their ventures. He also noted that DICCI plays a significant role at both national and international levels in preparing youth to compete globally and contribute to the country’s economic development.
On this occasion, a ‘Bhim Walk’ was organized, where Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal, along with faculty members, non-teaching staff, research scholars, and students, participated in a march across the campus. Participants pledged to spread Babasaheb’s ideals among the masses and reaffirmed their commitment to his vision. The Vice-Chancellor and guests also inaugurated an electronic vehicle charging point in the campus and ‘Navkalpana’ , A section 8 company.
Participants who excelled in competitions such as debate, essay writing, poster making, slogan writing, quiz, extempore speech, street play, and rangoli were awarded certificates and prize money.
At the end of the program, the organizing committee expressed gratitude by presenting mementos and shawls to the dignitaries. Prof. K.L. Mahawar delivered the vote of thanks.
Dr. Monica Sharma, Chairperson of the Cultural Program Committee, informed that vibrant cultural programs were organized with participation from BBAU students and the Department of Culture, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Dance and musical performances added enthusiasm and inspiration to the event. An exhibition showcasing rural industries, handicrafts, traditional arts, and local products was also organized, presenting an engaging and commendable display.
The event was attended by deans, heads of departments, faculty members, non-teaching staff, research scholars, and students from various faculties.
