Seminar on “Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture” Organized at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University
Lucknow: A seminar on the theme “Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture” was organized on June 10 at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University under the joint auspices of the Department of Horticulture, BBAU and Yuvarashtra, Awadh Prant. The program was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal. Apart from this, Shri Sanjay Ji, Chief Guest and Sah Prant Pracharak of Awadh Prant, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Prof. S. Victor Babu, Dean of Academic Affairs, Prof. Deepa H. Dwivedi, Dean of School of Agriculture Sciences and Technology, Prof. M.L. Meena, Head of the Department of Horticulture and the Program Coordinator, Dr. Ravi Shankar Verma were also present on the dais. The program commenced with the offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Following the University Anthem, the organizing committee expressed gratitude to the dignitaries and faculty members by presenting them with bouquets.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal elaborated on the topic “Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture” and stated that the changing climate scenario is having a significant impact on agricultural production, food security, and farmers’ livelihoods. Emphasizing the need to establish a balanced relationship with nature, he urged everyone to make environmental conservation a part of their daily lives. Prof. Mittal highlighted that the judicious and sustainable use of natural resources such as water, land, forests, and biodiversity is the need of the hour. He also stressed the importance of tree plantation, resource conservation, and adopting an environmentally responsible approach, stating that only through collective efforts can a safe and sustainable future be ensured for coming generations.
Chief Guest Shri Sanjay Ji discussed in detail the challenges faced by the agricultural sector due to climate change and its adverse effects on crops. He explained that changing weather patterns, irregular rainfall, and rising temperatures are having serious implications for agricultural productivity and food security.
On this occasion, Prof. S. Victor Babu, Prof. Deepa H. Dwivedi, Prof. M.L. Meena, and Dr. Ravi Shankar Verma also shared their views and highlighted various dimensions of climate change and its long-term impact on the agricultural sector. They particularly discussed the challenges posed to agricultural production, natural resources, and food security due to changing climatic conditions.
The seminar was attended by faculty members, non-teaching officers and staff, research scholars, and farmers.
