National Seminar on Strengthening Research Capacity Held at BBAU; Experts Share Global Dimensions of Research
Lucknow: A one-day National Seminar on “Strengthening Research Capacity” was organized at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University on August 18, under the joint aegis of the Research and Development Cell and the Finance and Infrastructure Committee. The programme was chaired by the In- Charge Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunita Mishra. The dignitaries present on the occasion included Prof. Shishir Kumar, Director, Research and Development Cell, BBAU, Dr. Prakash Singh, Department of E-Commerce, Saudi Electronic University, Saudi Arabia, Mr. Shivendra Singh Chauhan, AI and Technology Division, Vercos Group, Lucknow, Mr. Amit Singh Baghel, Founder-Director, Vernacular Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd., Prof. Amit Kumar Singh, Dean, School of Management and Commerce and Dr. Ramesh Kumar Chaturvedi, Coordinator of the programme. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and floral tribute to the portrait of Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. This was followed by the University Kulgeet. The organizing committee welcomed the guests and faculty members by presenting them with bouquets. Dr. Ramesh Kumar Chaturvedi, Programme Coordinator, welcomed all the participants. Prof. Amit Kumar Singh subsequently briefed the gathering about the objectives and outline of the programme.
Addressing the students on the importance of research and development, Prof. Sunita Mishra, In-charge Vice-Chancellor of the University, said that research in the present era is not limited to academic achievement but is also an important means of finding solutions to the needs of society and the nation. She encouraged students to come forward in the field of research with innovative ideas, identify problems, develop practical solutions, and adopt innovation and a scientific approach in their research. Prof. Mishra stated that students’ curiosity, creative thinking and research capabilities can be developed through proper guidance and resources, enabling them to become significant contributors to the development of the country.
Prof. Shishir Kumar, Director, Research and Development Cell, BBAU, while discussing research and development, said that research begins with curiosity or an idea, which can be transformed into useful outcomes through continuous efforts, experimentation and analysis. He encouraged students to develop an in-depth understanding of their subjects, study existing research work and maintain originality and quality in their research. Prof. Kumar particularly provided information about various avenues and methods of obtaining research funding and emphasized the importance of preparing effective research proposals and identifying suitable funding opportunities. He said that research should not be limited merely to obtaining a degree or publishing papers, but should serve as a means of expanding knowledge, promoting innovation and addressing real-world problems.
Dr. Prakash Singh, Department of E-Commerce, Saudi Electronic University, Saudi Arabia, discussed Research Ethics and highlighted the importance of honesty, transparency and responsibility in research work. He said that quality research is not limited to obtaining new findings; adherence to ethical standards throughout the research process is equally essential. He sensitized researchers about the proper and unbiased use of data, appropriate citation of sources, originality, academic integrity and avoidance of plagiarism. He also emphasized that the rights and privacy of participants must be respected during research and that findings should be presented truthfully and responsibly so that research can make a credible and positive contribution to society and the advancement of knowledge.
Mr. Shivendra Singh Chauhan, AI and Technology Division, Vercos Group, Lucknow, spoke in detail on the “Research and Development Process.” He stated that publication of a research paper is not the final destination of research; rather, it marks the beginning of the process of transforming research outcomes into real-world impact and utility. He explained the various stages of research, from problem identification to research impact. He noted that research projects may encounter technical challenges, resource constraints, lack of proper direction or other practical difficulties at different stages. Mr. Chauhan also informed the participants about identifying such challenges, adopting effective solutions and taking research from the laboratory to real-world application and impact.
Mr. Amit Singh Baghel, Founder-Director, Vernacular Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd., discussed “Global Best Practices” and highlighted various aspects of the effective use of research and data. He explained that to identify good-quality data, it is essential to clearly understand the purpose for which the data is being collected. He emphasized the need for researchers to understand their respondents, collect data carefully and purposefully, and exercise due diligence throughout the process. Mr. Baghel stated that research findings should be presented in simple and clear language so that they can be easily understood. He also discussed the importance of looking beyond the immediate scope of research and considering potential aspects, as well as conducting a comparative analysis of the situation before and after the research.
During the programme, students also presented their research papers. They elaborated on their research work, important aspects related to their topics and the findings obtained, sharing their perspectives with the participants. Certificates were presented to the students in recognition of their active participation and research paper presentations.
At the conclusion of the programme, the guests and faculty members were honoured with mementoes on behalf of the organizing committee. Dr. Ramesh Kumar Chaturvedi delivered the vote of thanks.
A large number of teachers, research scholars and students were present during the programme.
