Deliberations on Various Dimensions of NEP 2020 Held at BBAU; Experts Present Roadmap for Viksit Bharat

Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, inaugurated a two-day International Conference on “NEP 2020: Transforming Education and Fostering Excellence for Viksit Bharat” on 5 August, organized by the Department of Management Studies. The programme was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal. The Chief Guest was Prof. Amar Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University. Other dignitaries on the dais included Mr. Deepak Kumar Lalla, CEO, Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF), Mumbai, Prof. Amit Kumar Singh, Dean of the School of Management and Commerce and Prof. Taruna, Programme Convenor. The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and floral tributes to the portrait of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Following the University Kulgeet, the guests were welcomed with saplings by the organizing committee. Prof. Taruna formally welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives and framework of the conference.
In his presidential address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal emphasized the need to understand and analyse how the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He stated that education is the foundation of social, economic, and cultural transformation and is instrumental in building an inclusive, self-reliant, and empowered nation. He explained that education should be based on three fundamental dimensions – Knowing, which refers to self-awareness and self-discovery; Doing, which emphasizes working for the welfare of society and the nation; and Being, which focuses on becoming a responsible and ideal citizen. According to him, only when these three elements are integrated into the education system can meaningful and positive societal transformation be achieved. Prof. Mittal further highlighted that innovation, entrepreneurship, science and technology, and research and development must be accorded top priority to realize the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. He urged the youth to become job creators rather than job seekers, thereby strengthening the nation’s economy. Stressing the importance of preserving India’s rich cultural heritage, he said that higher educational institutions have a crucial responsibility to promote research addressing real societal challenges and provide effective solutions for nation-building.
Chief Guest Prof. Amar Pal Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, remarked that youth are the most powerful agents of positive social change and play a vital role in nation-building. He stated that any law can only be truly understood by studying its social, historical, and constitutional context. Merely learning legal provisions is not enough; one must also understand their objectives, background, and impact on society. He encouraged students to develop a deeper understanding of the practical dimensions of law, judicial perspectives, and contemporary legal challenges. He emphasized that legal education aims not only to produce competent lawyers but also responsible, sensitive, and justice-oriented citizens. He expressed confidence that ethically conscious and legally informed youth would play a significant role in building a developed India.
Mr. Deepak Kumar Lalla, CEO of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, Mumbai, observed that if India aspires to become a truly developed nation, sustained growth in per capita income is essential. He emphasized that preparing young people according to the needs of the future is imperative for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat. In today’s era of Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies, he said, youth must remain dynamic, innovative, and adaptable to change. He also stressed the need to align the education system with industry requirements so that students become industry-ready. According to him, fostering critical thinking, employability skills, and a balanced integration of academic knowledge with practical experience is essential for nurturing capable, skilled, and innovative youth who will become the foundation of a developed and self-reliant India.
On this occasion, the book titled “Swadeshi Entrepreneurship: A Step Towards a Self-Reliant India” was formally released. The book has been jointly authored by Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal, Vice-Chancellor of BBAU, Prof. Sunita Bartbwal of Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani and Dr. Lata Bajpai Singh of the Department of Management Studies, BBAU. The organizing committee later felicitated the dignitaries with mementoes and shawls as a mark of appreciation. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Amit Kumar Singh.
A panel discussion was also organized during the conference, focusing on various dimensions of NEP 2020 and its role in building Viksit Bharat. Distinguished panellists included Dr. Kajal Chakraborty, Director, ICAR–National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, Dr. T.K. Srivastava from ICAR–Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow, Dr. Anoop Kumar Dixit, Principal Scientist, ICAR–Central Soil Salinity Research Institute and Major Virat Mishra. During the discussion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal emphasized the importance of adopting a multidisciplinary approach in education. He highlighted that faculty exchange programmes, student exchange programmes, and inter-university collaboration can effectively promote innovation and entrepreneurship. He described such academic partnerships as a significant step toward building Viksit Bharat while nurturing self-reliant and creative youth.
The conference also featured a Plenary Session for participants. Distinguished speakers included Prof. Sangeeta Singh, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Lucknow, Dr. Dharmendra Singh from Modern College of Business and Science, Oman and Mr. Anjani Kumar Pandey, Senior Vice President and Business Head, Omaxe Limited, Lucknow. Dr. Vinod Kumar from the Department of Information Management, Chaoyang University of Technology, Taiwan, joined the session virtually.
On the first day of the conference, two technical sessions were organized. The first technical session, titled “Education for Nation Building: Viksit Bharat @2047,” was conducted under the guidance of Major Virat Mishra and Dr. Krishna Murari of BBAU. The second technical session, on “Governance, Public Policy, Leadership and Management,” was chaired by Prof. M.C. Garg of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar, Haryana, along with Prof. Subhash Kumar Yadav of BBAU. The day’s proceedings concluded with vibrant cultural performances presented by the organizing committee.
The programme witnessed the participation of Deans of various Schools, Heads of Departments, faculty members, non-teaching officers and staff, research scholars, and students throughout the event.
