BBAU Organises One-Day Seminar on ‘Role of Hindi in the Development of the Nation’; Calligraphy Competition Also Held

Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, organised a one-day seminar on the theme ‘Role of Hindi in the Development of the Nation’ on September 14 on the occasion of Hindi Diwas. The programme was organised by the Hindi Cell of the University. The programme was chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal. The Chief Guest, Prof. Surya Prasad Dixit, Sabhapati of the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayagraj and Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti, Wardha, was also present. Apart from this, Senior litterateur Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal, Controller of Examinations and In-charge Registrar Prof. Vikram Singh Yadav and Dr. Ram Kumar Gupta were also present on the dais. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and floral tribute to the portrait of Babasaheb Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. This was followed by the University Kulgeet. The organising committee welcomed the distinguished guests by presenting them with bouquets and angavastrams as a token of respect and gratitude. At the beginning, Dr. Ram Kumar Gupta welcomed all the dignitaries and participants and apprised them of the objectives and outline of the programme. He also read out the message of the Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Government of India, Shri Pralhad Joshi, on the occasion. The anchoring was done by Dr. Preeti Rai.
Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal said that the comprehensive development of India requires balanced and sustainable progress in all spheres of life, including the economic, political, social, environmental and spiritual domains. He stated that language plays a crucial role in taking the benefits of development to the masses and connecting different sections of society with the mainstream of development. He said that Hindi is a language that connects the common people and serves as a powerful medium of communication and coordination amid the diversity of the country. Referring to the saying, “There is no alternative to mother, motherland and mother tongue,” he said that the mother tongue forms the foundation of an individual’s identity, culture and emotional connect. Hindi is not merely a medium of expression but also a powerful link that binds India’s diverse cultural traditions together. Prof. Mittal further stated that the scope of Hindi is continuously expanding and that it is no longer confined to literature and communication but has also emerged as an important language in the fields of entrepreneurship and business. He said that through the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, significant efforts are being made to promote the study, teaching and use of Indian languages, particularly Hindi. He added that Hindi Diwas provides an opportunity to strengthen the sense of pride in our language and to take a collective resolve to promote its wider use and dissemination. He called upon everyone to adopt Hindi more extensively in the fields of knowledge, education, administration, technology and employment.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Surya Prasad Dixit, Sabhapati of the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayagraj, and Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti, Wardha, said that more than 16,000 languages and dialects are spoken across the world, among which Hindi holds a distinctive and significant position. He stated that Hindi encompasses more than 350 dialects and linguistic forms, with languages such as Pali and Prakrit also having made significant contributions to its development. He said that Hindi is not merely a means of communication but also a language that brings India’s culture, traditions and diversity together. He further observed that Hindi literature has consistently played an important role in guiding society, promoting human values and strengthening national consciousness. Prof. Dixit said that the widespread use of Hindi can strengthen the spirit of national unity and social harmony by enabling people to rise above regional and provincial boundaries. He emphasised that promoting Hindi is important for the progress and development of the country, as the expression of knowledge and ideas in one’s own language plays a significant role in connecting the common people with the mainstream of development. On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, he called upon everyone to promote the wider use and dissemination of Hindi and to further strengthen its literary and cultural dimensions.
The Keynote Speaker and senior litterateur Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal said that inclusive development of the country is possible only when the benefits of government schemes and welfare programmes reach the last person in society. He said that language is the simplest and most effective medium for taking the benefits of such schemes to the common people and the last person in society. He observed that the recognition and acceptance of Hindi at the global level are continuously increasing, and Hindi is establishing a distinct identity for itself beyond the geographical boundaries of the country. He said that the true beauty of any language lies in its purity, simplicity and harmony, as a language that is simple and is able to communicate ideas to people more effectively. He called upon everyone to promote the wider use of Hindi and make efforts to use simple and correct Hindi in their daily work.
At the end of the programme, Controller of Examinations and In-charge Registrar Prof. Vikram Singh Yadav proposed the vote of thanks.
On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, a calligraphy competition was also organised for the MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) employees with the objective of promoting awareness, interest and appreciation of the Hindi language. The competition aimed to develop an interest in Hindi writing among the employees and encourage the wider use of Hindi as the official language.
The University is organising ‘Rajbhasha Hindi Utsav–2026’ from September 1 to September 30, 2026. As part of the month-long celebration, the Hindi Cell will organise various academic, creative and competitive activities. These include a Noting and Drafting Competition, Hindi Typing Competition, Rajbhasha General Knowledge Competition, Self-Composed Poetry Recitation Competition, and a seven-day Hindi workshop.
During the programme, Dr. Namita Jaiswal, Dr. Preeti Rai, Dr. Shivshankar Yadav, along with other teachers, non-teaching officers, research scholars and students, were present.
