BBAU’s Initiative Towards a Greener India: Vice-Chancellor Leads Tree Plantation Drive and Honours Gardeners

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) organized a tree plantation drive on August 5 at the Birsa Munda Student Activity Centre under the aegis of the Gardening and Beautification Section. The programme was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal. The event was attended by BBAU Advisor Prof. K.K. Pandey, Dean of Students’ Welfare Prof. Narendra Kumar, Director, IQAC Prof. Shilpi Verma, and , Horticulture and Beautification Section Prof. G.C. Yadav, among other dignitaries. During the programme, the Vice-Chancellor joined teachers, non-teaching staff, research scholars, and students in planting saplings across the campus.
Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal conveyed a strong message on environmental conservation. He stated that nature and humanity complement each other, and if we wish to provide future generations with a clean, green, and safe environment, tree plantation must be transformed from a ceremonial activity into a people’s movement. He urged every individual to plant at least one tree and take responsibility for its care and protection. Prof. Mittal further emphasized that trees are not only the source of oxygen but also play a vital role in water conservation, biodiversity enhancement, climate regulation, and maintaining ecological balance. He noted that rising pollution, climate change, and the indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources have posed serious environmental challenges. In such circumstances, he said, it is the moral responsibility of every citizen to actively contribute to protecting nature. He appealed to everyone to participate in large-scale tree plantation and ensure the survival of planted saplings, adding that Protecting nature is protecting humanity, and a green, clean, and environmentally sustainable India will form the strong foundation of a Viksit Bharat.
On the occasion, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal also honoured the university gardeners for their significant contribution to maintaining a green and beautiful campus.
The programme was attended by Horticulture Inspector Dr. Sameer Dixit, Dr. Manoj Kumar Dadwal, Dr. Ravi Shankar Verma, along with faculty members, non-teaching staff, research scholars, gardeners, and students.
