BBAU Receives a ₹5 Crore Collaborative Research Project from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi

Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, through its Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has received a ₹5 crore research project from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi, in collaboration with the Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), and ICMR-RMRIMS, Patna. The project aims to develop and implement novel nanotechnology-based drug formulations for the treatment of Post-Kala-azar Dermal Leishmaniasis (PKDL).

On behalf of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Prof. P. S. Rajinikanth, Dean, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, will serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) of the project. Prof. Rakesh Kumar Singh from the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), will contribute to the project. On this occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal, congratulated Prof. P. S. Rajinikanth and extended his best wishes, describing this achievement as a matter of pride for the University.

As part of this initiative, a Centre for Collaborative Research (CCR) has been jointly established at BBAU and BHU, in collaboration with ICMR-RMRIMS, Patna. The centre will focus on developing novel drug formulations for the treatment of Post-Kala-azar Dermal Leishmaniasis (PKDL) and their clinical evaluation.

The project aims to promote research into advanced and innovative therapeutic approaches for developing novel drug formulations to treat PKDL. Another key objective is to explore the possibilities of effective treatment for the disease and strengthen scientific collaboration among the participating institutions to develop innovative therapeutic strategies.
