BBAU Organizes Awareness Programme on World Alzheimer’s Day; Street Play, Exhibition and Cognitive Activities Spread the Message of Alzheimer’s Awareness

Lucknow: Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, through the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, School of Home Science, organized an awareness programme on the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Day at the Savitribai Phule National Institute of Women and Child Development (SPNIWCD), Regional Centre, Lucknow. The programme aimed to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and provide information regarding its symptoms, risk factors, preventive measures, early identification, and appropriate care. The programme was organized under the guidance and direction of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Shalini Agarwal and Dr. Rupika Chopra, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, School of Home Science.
The M.Sc. students of the department actively participated in the programme and conveyed the message of Alzheimer’s awareness through various educational and interactive activities. The students organized an informative street play, PowerPoint presentation, awareness exhibition, cognitive games, and distribution of informative pamphlets. Through the street play, the students effectively highlighted the challenges faced by individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease and their families. They also emphasized the importance of sensitivity, empathy, family support, and appropriate care for older adults. Through the PowerPoint presentation, the students provided detailed information about the major symptoms and risk factors of Alzheimer’s disease, preventive measures, and the importance of early identification and appropriate care.
On the occasion, the students also organized an exhibition showcasing educational and awareness material related to Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, various cognitive games and activities aimed at stimulating the mind were conducted, highlighting the importance of mental activity and cognitive engagement, particularly among older adults.
As part of the programme, informative pamphlets on Alzheimer’s disease were distributed among Anganwadi Supervisors with the objective of promoting community-level awareness. The initiative aimed to disseminate simple and useful information through rural and community settings, enabling families to develop greater awareness regarding the early identification of Alzheimer’s symptoms, appropriate support, and care.
The programme was attended by Dr. Anil V.B. Babu, Regional Director, SPNIWCD Regional Centre, Lucknow, along with Ms. Leena and Mr. Akhtar. Their gracious presence, support, and participation contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
The programme provided the M.Sc. students with an opportunity to connect their academic knowledge with community awareness and social outreach. Through various activities, the department effectively highlighted the importance of awareness, early identification, family support, and community participation in addressing Alzheimer’s disease. The programme reflected the commitment of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies towards community engagement and promoting awareness about cognitive health and the overall well-being of older adults.
