Lucknow: The international research journal Environmental Sustainability, published under the Editorship-in-Chief of Prof. Naveen Kumar Arora from the Department of Environmental Science, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow, has successfully completed eight years of publication. Launched by the globally renowned publishing house Springer Nature in June 2018, the journal has, within a relatively short period, established itself as a distinguished platform in the field of environmental science worldwide. Under the visionary leadership of Prof. Arora, a renowned researcher in environmental science and microbiology, the journal has consistently maintained high academic standards and achieved remarkable progress.
According to the latest Journal Citation Reports (JCR) released by Clarivate (Web of Science), Environmental Sustainability has attained an Impact Factor of 4.6. In the academic community, an Impact Factor exceeding 4.0 is widely regarded as a significant indicator of a journal’s scientific quality and global influence. This achievement places the journal among the leading environmental and biological sciences publications in India. Since its first evaluation, the journal has demonstrated continuous growth and has established a significant position in environmental sustainability research.
Expressing his delight on this achievement, Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal, Vice-Chancellor of BBAU, congratulated Prof. Naveen Kumar Arora and the entire editorial team. He stated that the journal is making a commendable contribution by promoting high-quality research on environmental conservation, sustainable development, and issues concerning future generations. He further emphasized that the journal is playing a vital role in encouraging research aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and conveyed his best wishes for many more accomplishments in the future.
On this occasion, Prof. Naveen Kumar Arora stated that achieving a 4.6 Impact Factor and Q2 ranking within just eight years is the outcome of the editorial team’s dedication, persistent efforts, and unwavering commitment to scientific excellence. He expressed his gratitude to Dr. Mamta Kapila, Executive Publisher at Springer Nature, and the entire editorial board for their continuous support. He noted that establishing a new research journal is an extremely challenging task, particularly in a field already served by several internationally reputed journals. Despite these challenges, the journal succeeded in gaining global recognition through its commitment to publishing high-quality research, maintaining a robust editorial policy, and pursuing a visionary approach. Prof. Arora further explained that the concept of the journal was developed nearly eight years before its official launch. Recognizing the growing environmental challenges worldwide and the increasing need for high-quality interdisciplinary research, the vision was to create a platform dedicated to publishing outstanding research addressing contemporary environmental issues. Acknowledging this vision, Springer Nature launched the journal in June 2018. Today, the journal actively supports and promotes research aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
During its eight-year journey, the journal has achieved several milestones that typically require decades to accomplish. It is currently indexed in the world’s leading indexing databases and is classified in the Q2 category in both Web of Science and Scopus. The journal received its first Impact Factor of 3.0 in 2024, which has now increased to 4.6 in 2026. This significant growth reflects the journal’s excellent citation performance and expanding global academic influence.
The journal publishes high-quality research articles in the fields of environmental and biological sciences and provides peer-reviewed scholarly content to researchers, academicians, scientists, and students. Its primary objective is to promote sustainability-focused research that integrates natural sciences, engineering, and policy perspectives. On the occasion of completing eight successful years, the journal has invited researchers across the globe to submit high-quality manuscripts related to environmental sustainability. With its Q2 ranking and 4.6 Impact Factor, Environmental Sustainability has firmly established itself as a rapidly emerging and internationally respected platform for scientific publication.
The leadership of Prof. Naveen Kumar Arora, a faculty member of BBAU, as the Editor-in-Chief of this internationally recognized journal is a matter of great pride for both the University and the nation. This global recognition has further strengthened the University’s academic reputation and international standing.
